How much spam are we getting? - PhilOfPerth - 02-21-2024 I received a notification of a new post, relating to cloned cards, that had presumably been removed already by the Admin. How much of this spam is arriving at the forum, and is there a chance some may get through long enough for it to be effective for its sender? RE: How much spam are we getting? - bplus - 02-22-2024 @PhilOfPerth you get notifications for new posts? How do you set that up? Or did you get PM'd (Personal Message) from HappyBar? RE: How much spam are we getting? - SMcNeill - 02-22-2024 Honestly, we don't hardly ever see spam. Me personally, I think the last time I dealt with *anything* spam-related was proabably about a little over a year ago, but Pete *still* came back. /sigh! And I tried so hard to pay Mother Nature, the PGA golf guys, and his wife into ust keeping him!! It's rare for a spam bot to make it all the way through the authorization process to become a full member. Once they do, just about every name in color at the bottom of your screen has the right to "Ban Spammer", so it becomes a contest on who can kick them the fastest. Normally they might get up to three posts off, and then POOF them and all their posts are gone! We have a very active and lively forum base here, with lots of folks who are trusted to keep things neat and tidy, and as such, spam bots probably spend more effort trying to sign up and post on us than any one indivudial here has to spend having to deal with them. RE: How much spam are we getting? - SMcNeill - 02-22-2024 @bplus AS for how to get those emails, click the image above and expand it. As you can see, at the top of a forum is the option to subscribe to it. Subscribe, and you can get emails for any new posts in that forum. It's good to know we're being looked after... not that there's anything that they can "span" out of me anyway! (02-22-2024, 12:03 AM)bplus Wrote: @PhilOfPerth you get notifications for new posts? How do you set that up? It was from Happy Bar - how did you know that? But I'm pretty sure it wasn't a PM, G-Mail just said "You've received a new post from QB64" (or something like that), and a brief precis of the post, which it does for all posts I've subscribed to. I found an item under Profile settings, first column, 2nd options box, bottom item is a select from List of options that was marked 'Unsubscribed" and I changed to "email notifications", try that until it drives me crazy from this being such a popular forum RE: How much spam are we getting? - SMcNeill - 02-22-2024 I get emails for new topics in the "Help Me" forum, but that's the only one I usually follow. I try not to make folks who are looking for help have to wait so long, if I can. Everything else I'll just find it and get to it as I get to it. |
