all of the predecessor i would just open the archive and copy everything to qb64 folder. this version tells me I'll need to give administrative right for a 3.10.0 folder of some sort. anybody got a clue? And I can't compile a thing either.

Please check your antivirus exceptions and double-check that your access to the folder has not changed.

Same thing man. Based on investigation, it seems i have the following files which can't be copied
Cannot open output file : Access is denied. : c:\qb64pe\internal\c\c_compiler\libexec\gcc\x86_64-w64-mingw32\13.1.0\collect2.exe
Cannot open output file : Access is denied. : c:\qb64pe\internal\c\c_compiler\x86_64-w64-mingw32\bin\ld.exe
both are part of the archive none of them want to be copied.

Windows pretty much owns the root directory anymore. Did you try extracting to Documents, Desktop, Downloads of your user allocated stuff?

It sounds like antivirus. It's probably seeing something in those two executables and blocking them from being written.

I'm still using a Windows 7 Pro 64bit environment for my programming. Eventually (very soon) I'll need to switch over to Linux and am not looking forward to it. Not because of Linux, but because QB64PE still has a few issues to work out with Linux.
With the way Windows is going (spyware, crapware, not owning your OS any longer) I imagine many more will make the switch to Linux in the future. I know the QB64PE developers have their hands full but perhaps some time could be allotted to sort out compatibility issues that exist with Linux. This would make the switch from Winblows to Linux a bit nicer in my opinion.
I simply refuse to use a version of Windows beyond 7 Pro SP2 64bit. Steam just pulled support for the remaining Windows 7 users so I need to switch to Linux to get my Steam support back as well.
