Expect Forum Outage Soon(tm), lasting Briefly(tm)
#1
Just a friendly FYI..

Our forums and wiki may disappear for a few hours in the next couple of days.  This is normal and expected, and the world isn't ending.  Just wait it out and it'll be back usually within 24 hours after disappearing.

This is all due to me paying up our server costs (just did it).  After the process it, we'll get a new set of certificates and all that such stuff for the forum addresses to verify we're not crooks.  your browser will have the old certificate stored, the new won't propagate through the web instantly (it takes a bit to pass to various NDS servers), so it might take 24 hours for everything to match up again as usual.

Normally, this downtime is just a few minutes for me here in the US, but some folks in Wheresville have to wait for US DNS to update to update canada to update russia to update europe to update Wheresville..... or however that all works.  LOL!

Note:  If the forums don't come back up for you, once they go down, you may need to clear your browser cache for our site or CTRL-F5 or ALT-F5 (or whichever hotkey it is on your browser) to force it to reload the page and not just load from cache settings and such.

Note 2:  Discord and Reddit are separate from the forums.  Those won't be affected, so feel free to stop by either and post, if you're concerned over the downtime or if the forums don't come back up for you after a reasonably expected period.  We'll still be there, even while the updates might be glitching things out here for a few folks temporally.

So it doesn't mean you took the money and skipped town for Mexico, or that Mr. RC Cola Bunghole down in Florida once again commandeered the QB64 project?

For real though, thanks Steve for the heads up and for all that you do... First QB64 and now QB64PE have brought the fun back in computing for me. My thanks to all the peeps who help make it happen and contribute to this little community.

Surely that's the true sign this is the phoenix edition, the rising from the ashes and all that! Wink

I'm glad we got past the ashes. And speaking of ashes, where is Clippy, anyway? Big Grin

The fact that folks still remember stuff like this, is exactly why I like to be as up front and transparent as possible about all our costs, donations, and where each and every penny comes from and goes.  I try and warn folks ahead of time so they don't panic over expected outages and keep them up to date on our status with everything.

Hopefully, folks seeing that *this* part of the bill is now paid up for the next FIVE years, will help reassure them that we aren't planning on going anywhere anytime soon.  Our server storage/data costs are still paid up for another year, so there's nothing to worry about there for the short term, and our Patreon donations are *almost* to the point to cover that cost completely.  I'd still like to get one or two more Patreons to help cover inevitable inflation increases and what not, but even without those, I'm certain the community will come together and make up any shortfall with one time donations like they've done several times before already.

Don't worry guys.  The "Hello World" isn't ending, even if the forums here disappear in some odd occurance somewhere.  (Ha ha!  I stole Pete's punny!)  The Phoenix Edition is here to stay for quite some time and isn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future as long as I have anything to say about anything whatsoever.  Wink

I dunno.  They're not something I really get emails about.  I figure if we pass April 14th, or so, and nobody notices, then that's a good thing.  Big Grin

(April 14th was when our old subscription expired, but I paid us up early.  The new certificates might not take place until the last ones expire, so it may, or may not, be a brief outage by then...  Depending on how they handle all that stuff internally.)
