I don't like this "Moved"! There's a better way for threads that get out of hand.
There used to be a forum called Antivegan here. The name speaks for itself. There was no registration and no censorship. It was about ideology, and often the scraps flew.

In the forum there was a subforum Names garbage can. There came in all the threads the came out of controll. It was really rough there, but it was often funny too.
In my personal opinion, this was the best solution without censorship that I have seen to date.

The forum no longer exists since 2020/2021 because the anti-vegans have practically won each other to death. Yes, really! The opponents all went down somehow.
Of course there are still vegans, but not this one anymore.

What I want to say is, couldn't we also create a garbage can here - open, without a password?

We used to have such an off-topic set of forums, but people ended up complaining endlessly over them. "These arguments about politics and off-topic things don't look good to my employer, if they ever visit the forums to see what type of code and discussions I might be engaging in... Blah... Blah.. Blah..."

So, to keep these type of "profession programmers" happy, we settled on the middle ground here: We're *not* going to get rid of anything off-topic, but to address those "unprofessional" concerns, the off-topic forums have a two-fold safety build in.

First, only registered members of the forums here can even see those off-topic forums. They're hidden and 100% unavailable to guests.

Second, the forums are password protected so that folks who object to those type topics can't say that they accidently wandered into something and it offended them. You have to *choose* to visit those forums. If they offend you, then you can simply choose **NOT** to visit them anymore. My feelings are: IF you register for a site, then deliberately choose to enter non-moderated, password protected sub-forums of that site, I'm just going to laugh at you when you complain to me about being upset over the contents of those free-speech subforums. Tongue

Everything so far has been moved into the basic "Freedom to Speak" sub-forum (as none of it is NSFW or X-Rated), and all one has to do is enter the password ONCE to enter that subforum. The server then records you've entered it and happily lets you inside as long as you stay logged into your account, without bothering to pester you every time you want to go there.

As for the password in particular, here's a simple clue just by reading the forum description:

Quote:Freedom to Speak
What limits do we place upon free speech and the freedom to speak?

And, if you've bothered to read down this far, I'll go ahead and give you the password so you don't have to read the sticked topic for it here: https://qb64phoenix.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=107

"None" (though I'm not certain now if it's capital N, or not, or if that even matters -- and don't include the quotes.)

What limits do we place upon free speech and the freedom to speak?

None Wink

They should have a place where there is Freedom to Speak and you only have to enter the crazy password once.

Then when you log in, you have access to this special place just by clicking the board available to you because you typed the crazy password once already. Smile

@KernelPanic, this place exists here at this forum.

Update: oops Steve beat me to it Smile

When someone calls for murder or hatred. That was also the case with Antivegan. Such comments have been deleted immediately.

I still think that the garbage can would be a good solution. Oh well! OK!

That's the only limit we actually place on the speech -- nothing illegal. No child porn. No instructions on building a bomb and a hit list of folks to use it on. No murder for hire ads...

If it's legal, feel free to talk about whatever the heck you want. It's not up to me to be the politically correct police, or to shut down people with unpopular opinions. I may not agree with someone's nazi, fascist bullshit, but I'll stand strong to defend their right to say it.

Speech can't be called "free speech", unless people are free to speak -- even if what they're saying tends to offend the hell out of us!
