Likely they would choose Freebasic because it's "stuff for geeks" and has OOP like C++ and Python. Take the easy way out trying to make all programming languages the same. Or they would think any BASIC interpreter is easy to use to begin with.
I don't think I would learn much more from such a seminar with any programming language. There's an opportunity to learn Racket to be involved with Gentoo Linux but I'd have to be ten years younger and more energetic. :/
They might have thought they have enough competition already from SMcNeill when he could finish his QB64 Bible!
