Agreed. Most people don't want a computer; they just want a no-hassle appliance that lets them check email, shop, socialize, etc, and that's the way things have been headed all along.
Home computers started out as user-assembled boxes that were interacted with via mysterious switches and blinkenlights. They have gotten more user-friendly over the years, but the true computing appliance stage is still just around the corner.
That's for the next generation as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad I have my boxes.
