Honestly I am confused about what kind of progress you are making here.

The topic of the thread is excellent statement of a problem that may exist for non-windows users. I only use windows so I don't normally pay attention to fixes needed outside Windows but...

I am curious if Herve's fix (the first one, quick and easy) actually worked for you @madscijr but you seem happy to find an alternate way to get the Windows screen resolution, "the hard way" I would say which was not the problem starting this thread. Can you see my confusion here?

I don't know what is the right way vs hard way to do this stuff for non-Windows, I can only take Mac / Linux users' word for it and test whether their code runs or returns errors on my Windows computer.
