'Air Hockey v2-1.bas for QB64
' Started in QB64 Walter fork version (B+=MGA) 2017-09-05
' The first version was a direct translation from SmallBASIC,
' Now v2.0 add some more graphic image handling, try new things.
' 2020-03-11 v2-1 (QB64 v1.4 now) cleanup some code:
' Fix _MOUSEINPUT block too newbie ;)
' Fix flat spots on strikers how long have they been there?
' Increase frames per sec and slow puck speed for less double images.
' Oh that sped up the AI player! Nice.
' Do start shots to the side instead of directly at goal. MUCH BETTER!
' Update opening screen with this info. Now pause the puck at start.
' Ran OPTION _EXPLICIT and found a type-O that has been 0 all this time!

' v2020-03-23 Dark Theme as suggested by Danlin also fix fill circle with color
' also lighten color around the puck, oh fix the rest of the _rgb to rgb32.

nice, maybe this could be a QBJS edition with the new fullscreen, _resize, and touchmouse for a smartphone game

Dang phones, everything so tiny, I image my finger would cover half the field, maybe with a pencil pointed pointer?

This game rocks! One of my favorite arcade games. I've played twice so far, one on each table, and the computer has beat me both times by around twice as much. I guess I need to practice. Smile Have you ever thought of making a pool table game against the computer? I like your reflection math on this. I made a Breakout type game once but it's mostly random reflection.

Very challenging, I only lost by 11 points. Rolleyes

Thanks Ken and OldMoses,

A pool game against the computer sounds like a good next level step to take with that game...

Just so you know the computer can be beat I have a screen shot. The best way to score is a bank shot about 2/3-3/4 down the rail, the funniest way to score is watching your opponent knock it in for you from the back of his paddle!

B+, I've been using your math code from this game to make an example of wall reflection. It's not perfect, but I thought I would show you what I made using this code. If you have any suggestions or comments, I'm all ears. Smile  Thanks for making this game!

Code: (Select All)
'Walls Reflection Example by SierraKen
'Reflection math from B+'s Air Hockey.

Screen _NewImage(800, 600, 32)
Const pr = 20 '
Const pr2 = 2 * pr '
start:
Cls
cx = 350: cy = 250: r = 20
c = _RGB32(0, 255, 0)
rr = 20
cc = _RGB32(255, 0, 0)
speed = 5

Dim pao
Randomize Timer
pao = _Pi(1 / 10) * Rnd
If Rnd < .5 Then pa = _Pi(.5) Else pa = _Pi(1.5)
If Rnd < .5 Then pa = pa + pao Else pa = pa - pao

Yes, this is in the top 10 QB64 games of all time, nice job B+. You should post your fully working angle pong in this thread as well!
