Drop Slicer - Simple gaming fun!
#1
Probably my last QB64pe project for a while but I'm sure I'll be back for more at some point in the future...

This is a very simple game. All you do is click the mouse button to drop the block on to the blocks below. Try to align it with the topmost block if you want to last long!

The ZIP file contains drop-slicer bas along with a subfolder called assets which contains all the sound effects, graphics, etc. After building the project, the EXE must reside in the same folder as the BAS file. It accesses the assets folder relatively so won't find it if the EXE is in the wrong place.

.zip   drop-slicer.zip (Size: 176.25 KB / Downloads: 25)

You can get the latest version, report bugs, etc at GitHub where you can also find some of my other QB64pe projects (Scramble, Galaga, Poly Blaster, etc). If you have a mind to improve it then feel free to fork and send a pull request!

Hope you enjoy!

Cool.  I love simple games like this.  Working well in linux.    I'll be studying this one.  Thanks for sharing.

Well not hard to decimate that score Big Grin

Takes some practice NOT to anticpate sideways momentum when the block drops. Plus when your bladder says it's time to pee...

I have no idea how you did that! 118 rows! I'm sure I can improve on my meagre score but I don't see myself getting into quadruple figures. And the top of the tower is surprisingly blunt - you could have scored a lot more on that one. I'm mystified  Huh

I hadn't considered adding momentum to the blocks - that's an interesting idea. I'm sure there are lots of tweaks, improvements and variety that could be added to this game. This was a rare case of my sitting down and putting a project together in one sitting so I'm afraid that it is what it is  Blush

Original idea or remake of some Atari-like game?

I took a look at Galaga. Nice! I used to play it in my college days. Steve would say, "Huh, how good could Pete have been? He only needed 3 college days to become a chiropractor!" Well, Steve is still trying to get his tractor beam started, so what does he know? Anyway, we should all pool our talents into making a time machine, go back to 1979, and make billions. I know Terry has dibs on PacMan, but I'd be happy coding Star Master and/or Omega Race. Anyone remember those?

It's not entirely original as I've seen games of similar "drop this on things without knocking them over" concepts before - no idea where but they're definitely around.

I love remaking the good old games. Scramble is the other one I've done in QB64pe - that was a big fave of mine back in the day. Terry's PacMan is excellent. I might recreate New Rally X when I have my next QB64pe splurge (which will probably be some time next year). Do I take it that you've got a Star Master or Omega Race repro in the making or is that strictly for after one of us has created that pesky time machine?

May I add this excellent game to the tutorial as well?

You're very welcome to Smile

I'd be completely screwed without your tutorial by the way! I left it long enough to forget most things before I came back to do Poly Blaster and I imagine I'll forget it all again before I make my next project whenever that may be. It really is an awesome tutorial!
