How do you tag a user in a forum post?
#1
Question
This may be a dumb question, but how do you "tag" a user in a forum post, outside of quoting them directly in a reply? In the past I found where someone tagged someone and clicked reply and copied the source for the "tag". I would expect in the editor something like typing @ followed by one or more letters would bring up a list of users, which you narrow down by typing more letters, and then clicking the user you want to tag. But that doesn't work here, and I don't see a toolbar button to tag a user, and I haven't found anything on the help page about it, so maybe I'm missing something. Is there a handy dandy way to tag a user in a post?

That's weird, cuz on my side it did work - I got a private message saying I was mentioned, and my username is a hyperlink in your message, with the source

Code: (Select All)
/[url=https://qb64phoenix.com/forum/member.php?action=profile&uid=10/]@madscijr/[/url/]
So you type at symbol plus username...
Hey @SMcNeill are you seeing this?
Because in the editor it looks like it didn't work, just like Spriggsy said.

And after I save my post, it still isn't changing to a hyperlink.
But in the code box, it changed the source for your example to a hyperlink - and when I drop down to Edit Source view in the editor, it has my user name inside a url tag.
So how do you escape the forum tags so you can post them in a Code box?

But more importantly, I think that gives the answer, put @username inside a url tag...
Hey [url=@SMcNeill][/url], now are you seeing this?

Yep.  I got a notification.

That's all there is to it:  @ and then the person's name typed out.  You'll tag them and get their attention to whatever post you wanted them to see.  Wink

Okay now I see the @SMcNeill got changed to a hyperlink, but it wasn't displaying it as a hyperlink after I first clicked Post Reply, so I'm guessing it must take a minute to propagate.

Sometimes it links immediately when posted. Sometimes it links if after posting I refresh my browser. Other times I have to do a quick edit, change nothing, re-save it, and then it links. For fun sometime, I'll annoy Steve and try the just wait method...

Oh hell, now is as good a time as any @SMcNeill

LoL... okay well at least I know I wasn't doing anything wrong!

I wonder if there's a plugin or tweak for the forums that brings up the user list search in realtime when you hit @ ? Obviously it's a "nice to have" but still, one can dream!

You ping yourself with a message that you messaged yourself...

And then you get pings from everyone who replies to your message...

or who replies to the people who reply to your message...

or replies to that message...

or....  ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!  MAKE IT STOP!!!

Interesting topic. Something like that has happened to me too.
Two days ago I saw Marilyn Monroe, my crush, I was Fix & Foxi, but before I could speak to her she disappeared again. Oh, my God! No! Marilyn come back, I love you!

Or have I misunderstood something here?  Huh
