Forum Changes to Attachments and Images
#1
In the spirit of trying to reduce the scroll as much as possible, I've also enabled the settings which turn attachments into thumbnails instead of full fledged images.   This limits them to a maximum height and width and stops folks from embedding a dozen 8k resolution images into a single post which can destroy displays on phones and other smaller screens.

And, if you look down at the bottom of the screen (scroll ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way to the very bottom of any topic), you'll now see a:  POSSIBLY RELATED TOPIC set of suggestions.

Please don't fuss at me if these suggestions seem off the wall.  The *FORUM* is generating this also suggested list, not Steve personally, and I have no clue how relevant/insane it's going to be at this point in time.  If it's too insane and can't find anything matching and starts suggesting folks visit posts made by Pete, then we can always remove it later.

Big Grin

And while you're down there, there's also now a quick jump you can use to speed up forum navigation.  Click it and go to other areas automagically.

All little changes, but hopefully ones which everyone will agree end up making the forums nicer for us in the long run, once we get used to them.

If not, then they can always be reverted back out again in the future.

So @Pete prefers the big, full screen images?

Yo do realize you can click on the thumbnails and expand them if you're interested in seeing them in all their glory.  Right?

Problem was folks were sending me messages about "Can you help reduce the horror of our experience on our phones and such?!"  I'm hoping some reasonable limits would make things better for those guys, while not ruining it for everyone else.  Wink

Yeah, thumbnail size images is a bit sad. Kind of punishes the responsible posters too.

The person who sang... You can't please everyone, so you have to please yourself. Well, he's probably alone at home right now, pleasing himself.

So just please half of the folks, and make sure dbox and I are in that half! Big Grin

Note that you can still get those huge full screen images, if you insert them as [ img ] items and not attachments.

Code: (Select All)

The thumbnail change just stops them from auto-expanding as attachments with folks and blowing up the whole screen.

If it ends up being something that a majority of folks don't like, it can always be toggled back (that's all it is as well; just a toggle from fullscreen to thumbnail).  I'll give it a few days at least so folks can see if they can get used to it, or if they want to go back to those large images.  If most like it as it was, we'll just click that toggle back.

I'm not hard to get along with and tend to be happy to follow majority rules.  LOL.  Wink
