Forum Testers Test My Changes!!
#1
Ok guys, help me help you by making this a better little home on the web.

Folks complain over having to scroll past pages of quotes.   I've tried to fix that.

Scroll ALLLLLL the down and in the bottom right corner of any screen, you'll see a way to change themes.

Kindly swap over to the TWILIGHT THEME and then just browse the forums and see if anything seems overly broken with it.  It was the least used theme, so one I used for testing my changes on.

Here is what one image of a long ass quote looks like, as they're currently rendered.

And here is the image of how these quotes would look with the changes, provided they work on all broswers and don't break anything:

If you look, that's a much smaller quote, but there's an "SHOW MORE" link which you can link to expand the collapsed quote if you really need to see what the heck the person was referring to.

It quotes it.  It saves the original quote.  It's still referenceable.

But it defaults to being collapsed so folks don't have to scroll past a whole page of quote just for somebody to give a smiley face or "Good job" or whatever

Test the TWILIGHT THEME, tell me how it behaves on your system and browser, and if all works as advertised, I'll push the change into everything else soon(tm).

Maybe quotes won't be the issue for folks that they've been in the past, with a little fix like this for the forums.  Wink

And here's an easy to find long ass quote for testing purposes, so you can see how it behaves in your current theme, and how it will look after the change goes into other themes besides just TWILIGHT.

For now, swap to TWILIGHT THEME for testing, and let me know how it does and what OS/browser you be on, and if anything else seems goofy from it.

Don't you just hate ASCII-Holes that quote entire posts when it's completely unnecessary? Big Grin

Actually, I don't, but this was just too much damn fun to pass up. So now I'll switch to the Twilight Zone and see if this crappy thread cleans up nicely or not.

Okay, so it still let's us quote an abridged quote and shows it in the reply as the full quote. That's good. It also seems to have levels of show more, which I guess is alright. I mean since quotes mostly get used as references, I think this is a great way to modify the boards for probably just about everyone. If someone complains, you could always stick the Twilight Zone to display without this modification. If they then further complain they don't like that theme... Well that's what the term F**k off was invented for.

Not seeing the levels of Show More, this is what I get, snap of Pete's reply:

(In Twilight Mode)
Update: OK Reply #5 goes on and on beyond the screen shot I took so, maybe I didn't look down screen far enough for that final paragraph orig to Reply#5
So now that I have everyone confused including myself, my job is done Smile

But the Show More idea works pretty well in my brief check of it @SMcNeill

Nice one! It gets around my usual faux pas of quoting the whole stream to say "Yep!".
(that rminds me of my frequent comment to my "manager" that she doesn't have to print out the whole internet to print out a receipt).
Of all the places on Earth, and all the planets in the Universe, I'd rather live here (Perth, Western Australia.) Big Grin

Changes should be live on *ALL* themes now, so if you notice something broken or odd, report them to me before the storm takes my power out and I'm without the internet for a week. I'm *NOT* going to even attempt to make any changes coding on my bleeping phone or whatnot, and my laptop is such a high powered beast that it only runs on battery power for about an hour unless it's plugged in. When my power goes, so does Steve, so any glitches (hopefully there aren't any), may have to be lived with, until my power is restored -- and who knows how long that might be.
