Consider becoming a patron

Over the past year you've probably noticed that new versions of PE, bug fixes, and enhancements are handled very quickly and efficiently by the PE dev team.

All of this excellent service by them, in my opinion, needs some recognition.

Consider becoming a patron of the site. A few bucks a month goes a long way to help paying the bills. With any extra money left over I would love for these guys to be able to treat themselves and loved ones to a steak dinner now and then.

One thing they could do is make a "premium" IDE for QB64. Maybe one that has some extra themes or whatnot and have those themes be for "donor" builds. And then you could have some sort of tag on your name on the forum that shows you are a donor. I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not. I have a headache and these are the thoughts I had.

Nah, I believe everyone should have the same. It's a personal decision to become a patron. Those wishing not to should not get less in my opinion. I certainly don't expect more by donating. It's a way to say "Thank you" as far as I see it.

Well I know these guys do this stuff out of pure love, money or steak dinners might mix them up, might even be insulting.

But seriously if anyone (Steve) gets stuck I will help, these places are main reason I pay what I do for Internet though the government is helping me a little. I am liking You Tube stuff and Internet lookups up too.

How I view this - if I use the product and truly use the product then I should consider donating 'something'. As a metric I present this to clients:

                   "Imagine that you no longer had this...would it be a hardship for you".

Sooo...imagine that QB64pe was gone and you had no way to get it back, or perhaps imagine there is a critical bug that you cannot work around and there was no one to fix it - would that create a hardship?  If the answer is YES then consider donating.

Just so no one considers me a hypocrite, yes I donate here and have it set to donate annually as QB64pe IS an integral part of my business.  For the same reason I donate annually to Wikipedia as well.

Honestly, it'd be nice to have a few more patrons.  With just 10 people subscribing to the $3.00 a month tier, that'd cover our server costs 100%.  At the moment, we have ONE patron -- shout out to Terry for that!  "Thank you Terry Ritchie!!"

As long as I'm alive and kicking, I don't mind paying for our yearly costs.  Overall, they're quite reasonable, with last years being about $20 per month, or so, in total.  But, if life and all my recent surgeries have taught me anything, it's that none of us are immortal and nobody knows what the future will bring.  I'd love for the project to get publically funded, and not rely on me, just on the off chance in case something ever does happen to me.  It'd be nice for the next guy who comes along to be able to pick things up, without having to pick up some debt that THEY may not be able to afford.  

$3.00 a month, from 10 different folks, is all it'd cost to help keep the lights up and the forums running forevermore.  If you can afford that, feel free to sign up and donate.  You won't get any new bells or whistles, but we will smile warmly whenever we think of you forevermore -- and who could ask for anything more than that??

Honestly I am not into subscription stuff, always regretted every magazine, club... you start paying money and circumstances change and it's not so easy to back out after such a commitment.

So provide an address and a money order will have to do from me. I like to vote my approval or disapproval of what is going on with forum with money support. BTW I like to think forum participation is best sort of support

You bring up an interesting point about what happens should something happen to Steve. When subscriptions are involved like with Patreon I'd like to know what would happen then because of the thing that happened when Fellippe turned things over to unknown guy. For me to even consider Patreon subsciption I need to know what/who has been setup in some detail.

You pretty much nailed how I feel, which is why I donated a chunk last year and have my calendar set to remind me to donate again every year.

I have been donating to QB64 through Patreon for at least 5 years now, maybe longer (even during those two years I was away). When the changeover happened it was very easy to go into Patreon and stop the monthly donations. When Steve created a Patreon link I simply started again. Patreon has none of the "dark" features when it comes to try and stop a donation or change information. It's very straightforward. You can do a one time donation too if monthly donations are not your thing.

Like Steve said, the site will go on with or without donations, but if you're someone like me that uses the site daily and gets enjoyment from QB64PE I believe a small monthly donation is a great way to to say "Thanks" and at the same time support a great project.

I've hosted sites in the past and they can get expensive. Google Sites was sold to SquareSpace so once again I'm looking at that monthly payment soon for the QB64 Tutorial. I view the tutorial as another way of giving back to the QB64 community so I keep it free (as in ad free, Google pestered me weekly to put ads on the site) for everyone's enjoyment.
