"Ella" could mean "she" in Spanish as well as in Italian. Although in high school I was taught "lui" and "lei" in place of "he" and "she" in English...

"Ella" is pronounced differently in Spanish, with "y"-like sound in the middle. It's sort of like "egli" in Italian which I think it's the alternative "he".

I have a relative whose name ends in "ella" but deeply resents the name pronounced like in Spanish. Although her surname is Spanish and also has double-"L". I'm not sure if she obtained a name change like she promised long ago...
