At least it looks ugly, if halfe of the header width is just empty. Ouch, ok, since it's your birthday, here's one with double the phoenix:

But it's the spring edition... so put 2 springs under the birds.

It looks almost worse than before, absolutely desolate. This dark green is reminiscent of camouflage clothing; the Vietcong wore not only black, but also dark green. Be careful, there might be a Vietcong behind the Q!
A homepage should be designed to trigger an Aha moment in a visitor, a "wow," and prompt them to take a closer look. I've already written all this and made a suggestion, but it remained desolate. It seems to me as if one are trying to scare visitors away: "Don't stay here!" - "There's nothing to see here!" Well then, cheers!
After a bottle of port, the site might look pink.

Instead of a banner contest, just give everyone, who wants, a turn to make a banner.
We got 2 nice ones already!
Everyone wins!

What is dark green in that banner
Ah, you mean the background from my explaining image here? - That's the forum theme, switch to another theme and it will change.

It's not a Homepage, it's a community forum banner, our Homepage is here: https://www.qb64phoenix.com/
Appart from that I'm absolutely with Steve here. The banner challenges are dead, no intention to restart it. On the other side I'm also with @dbox, that the banner should more understated compared to the flaming bold old one, more serious.
That's the only reason why I picked up on this thread, otherwise I had completely ignored it.
