be quiet, also I know what it means to have so little time to spend for own projects.

I have not understood if you like to write code together me or if you like to have only some feedbacks about your work.
In the first case I should like to know what part of the program do you pass to me and what do you want manage.

For now I can say you that the Dbox consolitade game device input does not pass the test of PlugIn and Unplug the device while program is running.
Simple Joystick Input with Stick and Strig is a Steve Thread in which there are also my code. LOL the time passes
the same we ca say about Programmable Keyboard Input.

I have asked to SpriggsySprigs his library based on Xinput API.

In the thread of the last link there is a my answer with issue using DEVICE.

No news under the sun!

Thanks for your reply!

Sorry for not being clear about the level of involvment I was looking for. For this project I was just looking to share the code and put the project out there for someone to run with (someone with more time and talent than me! :-) I have tried to fix things here and there to get the basic program working, but I'm not looking to lead this one.

Thanks for clearing your thoughts about this your project. They are good, and I can say that already the first condition is surely limiting for me, moreover the second condition is not clear because there is not a meter for talent and ability about coding (issues solved, number of line of code written, efficacy of code, beatifulness of code, readablelity of code, speed of execution of compiled source .... etc etc) which of them do you use to evaluate talent? Or the experience about a task? Or the knowledge needed for the task?

In meanwhile the  time factor puts me out of game. So I must put me at the window observing your project go on.

This is for fun and learning, and I was mostly just joking, anyone can take this and run with it if they are interested! What would be nice is if someone ends up remaking Defender / Stargate in QB64 at a quality like Terry Rithie or RokCoder do. But even if it's not perfect, as long as people enjoy themselves learning and coding.

Hi MadSciJr

you were joking, but this joke lead us to a fundamental issue: poor time to dedicate to the project. So two half coders do not make one whole coder! That is a truth!

Sure masterpiece made by Terry or RokCoder and the other clever coders of this forum are impressive and admirable.
I think that to get that level of  program it need a good detailed project and not a simple "let's make a clone of QB Defender" or "let's port to QB64 the old QBdefender".

Code Complete has as its third chapter "Misure twice, cut one time" just to say more time to the project and the timeline of development, less time to write code.
I think that the quality of the project and of the results comes from here.
I remember my project of child windows.  It was okay but it need more quality about output. Someone notice that my project has about the half of lines of code of another project made by Terry Ritchie.
Yes and I can affirm that my project has the half of quality of image on the screen, and the half of possibiities to grow without write again the code underling.

It is true that a project needs time, resources, and a clear goal, to be successful.

To be clear, what I was joking about was my own talent! Not yours or anybody else's. I was just saying -humorously- that it would take coders with more skill than me, to do this the way I would like.

Some projects we find compelling enough that we are willing to make time to work on and see through to completion. Then there are projects that we are happy to put some time into as long as we make some progress, but maybe not so mission critical. If we're stuck and can't find help, we can put it down for a while and return to later. Then there are projects like this one, where I would like to see someone finish it, but I don't NEED it, so it isn't a top priority for me. For something like that, I might put the idea and some code out there, in case someone more interested wants to run with it. I do some work to help get it started, but then get too busy to finish. I think next time I will be more careful to say that at the beginning! I appreciate your input Tempodi, you are a nice guy and fun to work with :-)

Hi MadSciJr

as you have seen time is poor also to me.
Arghhh! We have a life behind QB64pe and Basic and others coding languages!

Thanks for your more affirmations.  You hadtn't  to do it but you did it! Very polite and correct!
I will return on the QB64pe code posted here when I will have a more clear vision of the whole code.
For now I am pausing.

No worries, sir. Have a good week!
