Oh that's not the browser, we programmed it to do that, such show offs we are! ;-))

I miss clicking on the banner up top and going back to the main page, or having it do a page refresh for us.  Maybe there's a mod possible where one click starts the animation, and a second click returns you back to the main board index?   I think I could learn to clicky-clicky and be able to live with that until the next banner comes around to replace this one.

OK here is what is going to happen.

1. I am going to replace the qbjs banner with an image screenshot from bplus.
2. The banner when clicked will act like it did before and go to home page.
3. I will keep my ideas to myself (no hard feelings!) especially if they could possibly disrupt ANY status quo situation here on the forum.

@grymmjack Keep sharing those ideas!  It's always nice to try out new things.  They don't always pan out as we envision, (I know I've certainly had a countless number of things that ended up completely differently than I'd imagined when starting them.), but they're always nice to help expand our knowledge and life experience.  

Who knew changing a simple forum banner would disrupt so many folks work flow?!!    

I never would've guessed such a thing when we started asking for an animated banner!  Things didn't pan out quite as expected this time around.  Who knows about next time?  We'll learn from the experience and grow with it, and avoid the same issues in the future.  Life is about experimenting and innovation, and disrupting status quo isn't a terrible thing.

Honestly, I think about the simplest way we could've still made this thing work would've been to divide the banner area into 3 <div> columns.  Place a logo on either side of the animated banner...   Folks could click the QB64PE "flaming bird" logo that we've been using for a while now on the left side of the page, and it'd work as a redirect/refresh back to the main board.  Click the QBJS Logo (is there a QBJS logo yet?) to start/stop the animation on the banner itself.

We'd end up with the best of all worlds, but nobody knew such a setup would be required this time around to make things keep working more-or-less as usual, while adding new functionality/animation to the logo.  

Things didn't work out this time around, but there's always the future!

There's still the possibility Terry suggested elsewere. Record the still images of that animation and make an animated GIF of it. I think that way we can have the nice animated banner without the nasty side effects.

Do you know I never knew you could click the banner and go to main page.

I've always been clicking the link:

"QB64 Phoenix Edition" > .... > ...

to get to Main Page and that works fine folks! It's located on Left side just under the Banner

Would Terry's idea work? seems like it would take a hell of allot of bytes to shoot a movie. The forum was pretty particular about GIF sizes for Avatars.

But GIF only supports 256 colors. I was kidding earlier about proposing WEBP. Some of you might not like it (I don't like it) but it does support animation with 32-bit color. But it might require an additional forum plug-in which is not practical.

Anyways, I wanted to mention what happens at my end when I use Firefox.

I ask the browser to open this topic, on page 5. It stays for a few seconds at the top or bottom, depending where was the page indicator link, then it changes the view to post #43, dbox's post with the static version of bplus' banner. Wow about 3300 downloads?! They mustn't care that well about the animation!

The banners are cool, I voted for one, but ever since the new banner went up I can't navigate/browse the forum at all on my older ipad unless in Lite (archive) Mode Here.   I guess the version of safari on it isn't compatible.

OK you got me curious.

I accessed the forum from my old Android Nook and the banner is left blank!
Nothing in that area of screen BUT you can still access the Main page by clicking the QB64 Phoenix Edition line below banner and sign-in area.

Same result from old ipad and Safari browser.

So yeah! A still shot is better than nothing.
