gcov.exe virus ?
#1
I just installed QB64pe (in fact copied) in my program files folder (in windows 10 with no UAC or folder restrictions from the OS) and my Norton Antivirus detected a virus in the file GCOV.EXE as VirusTotal did too. Did not even started qb64pe.exe !

Just uncompressing the 7Z file and voila !

I expect it to be a false positive but can ayone certify me the the file has not been corrupted in QB64pe website ?

it is located in:

QB64pe\internal\c\c_compiler\bon\gcov.exe

File is 2,045,440 bytes , august 26, 2024 at 17h 49m 27 sec.

Thanks for any replies.

.rar   gcov.rar (Size: 1.95 MB / Downloads: 19)

False positive for sure.

It's mentioned in bold red on our Wiki FAQ page and various other places, that it's recommended to exlude the QB64pe folder from virus scanning.

My personal advise, also given several times here and elswhere is to keep unsigned 3rd party and open source software out of the windows interna (Program Folder), that place is reserved for software signed by/for Microsoft.

Open source as well as QB64pe should simply go into your "personal folder" (the logged on user folder) or any place below it such as "Desktop" or even keep and extract it in the "Downloads" folder.

The latter is my favorite, have so much software installed in Downloads on my private PC as well as at my working place PC and never had problems, and at my working place the IT is paranoid about security tools, virus scanning, group policies and other crap. Can't change my Desktop background at work, not even changing it to simply another color, not to speak about images.
