Someone does disappear a lot... Even worse, they have to erase everything they say and do every time they disappear. They're afraid to leave anything around for people to find or reference from them in the future.
Quote:I wish I could forget the damned banner contest because I liked it allot!
Honestly, I liked it too. A little bit of community fun where folks could play around, interact with each other, and then showcase some basic artwork on the banner. It made things temporary, so even if something was "bad" or "ugly" in one person's eyes, it was only for a brief period and then something else would pop up. It keep things fresh, fun, and in season.
Quote:And now it seems we are stuck with Steve's ugly thing. It is shocking how people refuse to see how ugly some of their children really are! No it's not, it's just self love, is there a greater love? No it is made greater by making idea of self greater.
No, I don't think so. The banner changed a few days ago. Do a hard refresh of your browser.
As for Steve's ugly thing, it was made in about 30 seconds back when first cobbling the forum together, from one of those "create a logo sites". (Something similar to this:
https://www.flamingtext.com/logo/Design-Flame) It wasn't designed to specifically be "pretty"; just functional will all the different themes which were available to choose from. Once people started screwing around with the voting and crap with the contest, Steve just gave up and tossed it back up there and said, "To hell with it."
It wasn't there out of any self love; it was just there as it was unaffiliated with anyone (even Steve honestly as it was just auto-generated) and Steve simply wasn't going to deal with anymore damn drama over something so... mundane. WGAF about a banner??!!
Quote:"trying to get Walter to become "one of us" again" and "us" are trollers having a super fun time with our trolling?
This is classic Bill trying to take credit for something he wasn't really involved in, and then twisting it to make it sound bad somehow. I'd mentioned for some time that I'd like to do something like a seasonal contest. "BakaBT", one of the more popular anime/manga torrenting sites a dozen years back or so, did such a contest and it was all fun and games and community interaction. Folks liked it, it was lighthearted and enjoyable, and was something which I personally enjoyed participating in back then. I was hoping to bring that here, but the simple truth is we have a few toxic members who constantly hang around, complain and bitch, and yet never contribute anything to the project.
We start something fun and in which the community can participate, and these people do their best to twist it into something dark and then point and say, "Ohhh look, admin are bad guys!"
Quote:
1. Steve is accused of dishonesty and the post is still up and Spezzo isn't banned, hmm...
nor has Steve reacted?
Even though Steve gets accused of "censorship" all the time, he's one of the biggest proponents of free speech out there. I may not agree with what you say, but I accept your right to say it.
Look... It's simple... If admin wanted a banner of steaming piles of shit -- admin could set a banner of steaming piles of shit. Nobody's permission needed. No need to try and manipulate votes. No need to stage an interactive contest. Just change it and say, "Piss off! It is what it is!!" The idea of admin taking the time and effort to log in multiple user accounts and vote multiple times is just... silly and rather offensive. What it's saying, between the lines, is that admin can't be trusted to hack into *anybody's* account and then use it for *whatever* purpose they want.
If *ANY* jackass really believes that, then why are you still here in a place that you believe will hack your account and manipulate it for their own use?? Yet... The ones who made that claim... are still here, happily waiting to... Be hacked by admin?? I guess?? Man, since we're so unreliable and so bad and everything else, they really should just leave and then make their own QB64-Eden.... except they're not makers; just destroyers.
Quote:2. "I still say the banner should be made *in* QB64."
I assume that means no ai, because Steve used ai and that was bad.
We do have to assume what that "*in* QB64" means
no fonts?
no images form outside sources including even the QB64pe Logo?
no images for other sources enhanced of modified? maybe theorectically we should worry of CR infringement...
well I say alternately "no ugliness" as equally ambiguous as "in QB64."
I actually put everything together in QB64.
The AI I used was to generate a resource -- an image file. I'm not an artist. I write; I don't draw, paint, photoshop, make amazing artwork. The fact that the background I used was AI generated shouldn't be any worse than if I used a stock image from Adobe (which is where Walt took all his banner resources from), and yet somehow, I was... cheating with AI?
It was a resource I used. I documented where it came from. To me, this should have been sufficient, and yet some folks had to act like the world ended. Much ado over nothing, just to try and create drama.
Quote:I think contests are out because voting is clearly fucked up by admins or by trollers or by God knows what?
Contests are out because we have toxic members in our community who exist solely to destroy things, rather than create anything themselves. They'll mock them, insult them, manipulate them, and basically just trample on all the people who are simply wanting to be part of the community and enjoy themselves.
It's a toxic few, but they're almost impossible to get rid of. Ban them? They just make a new account, lay low and interject darkness from the sidelines every chance they get. Ban their IP? They use a VPN. The only way to truly make a difference would be to take the server 100% private, make it invite only, and then when they act up they get banned ALONG with whoever invited them to the server.
But that strict of a format stifles growth and people coming and going freely, and doesn't align with what I consider to be our basic concept of "freedom" around here. Folks should be free to come, free to go, and free to return without jumping through hoops, whenever they want to.
And thus, the site basically has.... lice. Parasites that stick around to bitch, whine, and complain, while contributing nothing, yet which refuse to simply move on and do their own thing.
I honestly don't understand it. *IF* we're that bad as a language, management team, forum, whatever... Why not branch off us, do your own stuff, and do it the way you feel is perfect? There's not a damn thing stopping anyone from making or creating their own forums, and we'll even happily allow you to post links from here to there! I don't believe forums have to be an either/or situation. If folks from here go there, that doesn't mean they still can't come here. People can visit more than one site a day, if they desire....
But the bitchers and whiners and complainers aren't the type to do that. They don't make, create, build, or innovate. They just... whine and claim they can do better.
Well... I'm still waiting to see it. Until then, I'll just keep on doing what I've always been doing, and those who are interested can join me and we'll do that stuff together. Those who aren't... can either bitch over it, or move on elsewhere. It really doesn't matter as they're mostly irrelevant.
