Spring Banner Contest! (2023)

Was this one of the posts? Because I have mentioned GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) already in this thread. I'm not sure if there's a version of it for Windows but I'm sure there is for Inkscape, the vector graphics editor.

This might be my last qazillionth banner for this Spring, it is done!

OK for Sprezzo and QB64 purest among us:
Here is code to get colors of peLogo I used for color palette for flowers:
Code: (Select All)
_Title "Get Logo Colors" ' b+ 2023-03-12
Screen _NewImage(600, 600, 32)
_ScreenMove 300, 100
logo = _LoadImage("peLogo.png")
Do
    _PutImage , logo, 0
    While _MouseInput: Wend
    c~& = Point(_MouseX, _MouseY)
cAnalysis c~&, red, green, blue, alph
Locate 1, 1: Print red, green, blue, alph
    _Limit 60
Loop

Sub cAnalysis (c As _Unsigned Long, outRed, outGrn, outBlu, outAlp)
    outRed = _Red32(c): outGrn = _Green32(c): outBlu = _Blue32(c): outAlp = _Alpha32(c)
End Sub

Here is the code that does all the drawing and save the image, thanks Steve!
Code: (Select All)

Excellent in terms of programming skills, but too overloaded and too colorful as a picture; my opinion. Less is usually more.
Honestly, I don't really like any suggestion. . . except mine of course.  Tongue

My pictures are made with Photoshop and the background is from an MS Wallpaper (1st suggestion) - freely available. I get them from time to time because I have subscribed to the MS newsletter.

Gimp has been available for Windows for a long time. It's really good now, but I'm used to PS.

"too overloaded and too colorful"  ?

What? there is an 8 color palette!

This reminds me of "too many notes":

Keep cool, bplus! Palette or not, I find it overloaded and too colourful. And when I see The Joyful Programmer's furious phoenix, I can think of a shotgun only.  Tongue

I am excited to see which design ultimately wins.  Big Grin

My work is created in Adobe Illustrator, FYI.

Say @bplus, that's a pretty cool trick you did, to extract the palette from an existing image and then remove the guesswork from which pixels to sample manually.

A quick thought I have - do you think your sun rays could use some antialiasing? There is code floating around for that. Holler if you want it. And speaking of sharing code, it would be sliiiiightly counterproductive if I was to paste what I'm working with here directly. A version of it is already online so I'll soon polish that and share it. LMK about the AA'd lines though (maybe you know where to look already).

Well I thought I was done, you guys keep finding blocky pixels...

Yes I have Wu Lines for Anti-aliasing. I thought I might need a solid one color line for Painting between the rays but I can give Wu a try.
Here is what I am talking about:

OK I installed WuLine code into Mod 9 of Spring Banner and as I had feared the Anti-alias line won't hold Paint as a solid RGB line would without alpha colors.

So I drew normal Lines in as before and then drew over them with WuLine after the sky sections were Painted and maybe the lines are a little sharper:

Here is the before in Mod 8:

And this is the after from Mod 9 with WuLine:

What do you think, is it worth the additional 92 LOC?
